The Townsquare Media Weather Center is paying close attention to two weather scenarios. The first is the brutal wind chills residents will face and our area's potential for winter weather.
First – Insight on the Temperatures
The counties under the Townsquare Media Coverage Area, Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Perry, Pickens, Sumter, Tuscaloosa, and Walker counties, are under a "Cold Weather Advisory." Click here to read more.
We're monitoring for any Alabama counties that may be issued a "Winter Storm Watch," as parts of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas are already under one.

Wind Chill Values Will Be Dangerously Low. Seriously.
The National Weather Service in Birmingham said, "Wind chills are expected to be in the single digits to low teens Monday through Tuesday. These temperatures are dangerous for anyone to be outside without proper precautions."

The potential impacts are "frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures. An extended period of subfreezing temperatures could cause pipes to burst," said the National Weather Service in Birmingham.
Second – Possible Winter Weather Tuesday
All signs indicate that winter weather will impact a good portion of Alabama on Tuesday.
"Snow will likely move into West and Southwest Alabama by mid to late morning Tuesday, becoming widespread during the afternoon and evening hours," said James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist. "Most of the snow will be over by 9-10 p.m."
Now, here comes the tricky question to answer.
How much snow will [fill in city name] get?
Spann's insight is that the "most challenging part of the forecast this evening remains defining the northern extent of snow. For now, it continues to look like that will be near I-59 (Tuscaloosa to Birmingham to Gadsden)."
The potential snow totals for West Alabama are between one inch for the northern portion of West Alabama and the southern section between 1 to 2 inches.

The short answer is yes!
The longer answer is that information could change as this is a developing winter weather situation. Remember, this system travels to us from other states. Where the low-pressure is situated, and the temperatures play a big role in what we see in the Yellowhammer State.
